In earlier days of the Web solo professionals and small business owners would offer visitors to their sites a typical content selection including: white papers, brochures, news and articles. That’s no longer an effective strategy because:
- When competitors do exactly the same thing the potential to differentiate and gain trust is greatly decreased.
- People searching for solutions to their needs and problems much less frequently go to the business owner’s, web site to find those solutions.
- There’s an inherent danger in a one-way channel: the market and/or industry may be changing and there’s no mechanism for sensing or responding to those changes or for getting quick feedback about those responses.
This is the Version 2.0 era. We have seen the rise of Web 2.0 technologies; companies are using Enterprise 2.0 tools; and in the aftermath of the recent financial crisis, the world’s leaders are trying to create Capitalism 2.0. As companies wade through these challenging times, I see a distinct shift towards another new paradigm: Collaboration 2.0.
There’s growing recognition everywhere of the need for corporations to collaborate with government, with customers, with NGOs, with stakeholders–and even with competition. In order to survive, business requires the cover of a collaborative ecosystem that will probably render obsolete traditional views of competition. Full Article
